In the mid 1990s, our founder, Georgina O’Hara Callan, asked herself a couple of profound business questions: “What if I could eliminate the hassles and risks involved in acquiring handmade, designer curtains? Georgina’s questions were revolutionary. In 1997 The Curtain Exchange — with New Orleans’ architecture and opulent style as a backdrop — opened as both a consignment shop for luxury custom window coverings and a boutique for new designer curtains. In short order, the demand for the new stylish curtains exceeded that for consignment pieces and the boutique began selling new curtains almost exclusively.
Fast forward to the present. With nearly a decade in business, and over 30 boutiques open across the country, we have altered the curtain market forever — and for the better. Behind The Curtain Exchange: Georgina O’Hara Callan.
British born, Georgina brings more than a passing interest in fashion to the table. Her love for fashion and style is what led her to create a company offering custom, handmade curtains.
As the author of two fashion books, including The Thames and Hudson Dictionary of Fashion and Fashion Designers and The Encyclopedia of Fashion, Georgina exhibits a breadth of knowledge regarding fabrics, colors and design. In addition to her writing career, Georgina’s résumé includes her work as an editor for women’s magazines and years spent as an interior designer.
When asked what sets The Curtain Exchange apart from the competition, Georgina replied: “Each franchise owner and specialist is passionate about curtains, and about their boutique.
