Meet Our Drapery Consultant Renee

Renee Garrett is our New Orleans curtain store’s in-house designer and consultant. She is such an asset to our store, so we thought we would honor her this month with her own feature post!

First, a little bit about what Renee does at The Curtain Exchange of New Orleans: as our in-house designer, Renee is responsible for the in-home consultations that we offer. During an in-home consultation, Renee personally visits customers at their homes to help them pick out the perfect drapery by assisting with measuring, coming up with solutions for difficult design elements, and asking questions to determine the overall look and functionality that homeowners want to achieve with their windows. One of the most valuables aspects of an in home consultation is that Renee is able to help homeowners work around design elements like bay windows, double height windows, and other non-standard windows, which can be quite difficult to dress.

Renee has recently been working on a few very interesting projects in the Garden District of New Orleans. She had a wonderful time working in these beautiful homes because of the awe-inspiring architecture that this district is known for. The late Victorian and early 19th century mansions provide a unique space that Renee loves to work in. Renee began developing her expertise with these types of homes from an early age when she spent much of her time touring historic southern homes with her parents, who taught her about the art, architecture, and history of the places they visited.

Renee also recently had the challenging job of dressing the windows in a bedroom with a 24-foot ceiling! The homeowners had recently raised the ceiling an entire floor, creating a double-story window in the room.

We think that Renee is so good at her job because she is a naturally creative person. We were so proud of her in 2011 when she published her debut novel, The Lost Degas. Characteristic of everything Renee does, she poured her heart and soul into the writing of this book, and a tremendous amount of energy self-publishing it in a digital format before having it printed later on.
